.docx? Vista! (No, we aren’t upgrading ;-)

Getting an error message about .docx files? If you (or your students) are using Office 2007/Vista at home, you’ll have difficulty opening files here. There is a simple fix by loading a converter . . .

To find the converter, go to Start >> Troubleshooting >> Office 2000 >> Install Office 2007 Compatibility Pack.

You can tell a Word 2007 file because its file extension is .docx or you’ll get lots of gobbledy gook when you try to open it.

Load the converter and open the file. You’ll need to save it as a Word 2000/2002 file. Go to File >> Save As. Look for File Type along the bottom of the window. Select Word Document. Click Save.

The same process works for .pptx files (PowerPoint).
