Network News: August 16th

Here’s an updated view of where we are in our network switch . . . We know that many staff members are coming in to set up classrooms, but some systems are not quite ready for prime time. So even if you don’t read any more of this message, know that some things are missing, but they’ll be available soon. Here are a few more specifics:

  • Desktop Shortcuts: Many of the familiar desktop shortcuts aren’t there yet, but that doesn’t mean that things are unavailable. Go to the DeForest Area School District home page >> Click on For Staff. You’ll find email, Skyward, ERMA (Skyward), Moodle, Tech Request system, and more. The DASD backgrounds will also return.
  • H drives: If you log in using the new system and find that your H drive isn’t there, please know that it’s not missing. It’s just disconnected. When you let us know, we’ll get it fixed.
  • Difficulties logging in: Two primary issues are causing difficulty for people logging in.
  • Strange or confusing characters in passwords–many of us don’t use these keys: ^ `~| } ] >
The most common issue we’re seeing is selecting DASD in the third line of your login window. If you don’t see three lines, please click on Options.

  • Software: If you’re looking for programs, you’ll find them under Start >> All Programs.
  • Printers: You should have at least one printer when you log in, but this part of the network is still under construction. We expect that work to be concluded soon.
  • Wireless: When you return, you’ll also find wireless access in your buildings. It’s available, but like the other items on this list, it’s not completely finished yet. Feel free to use it, but know that you’ll hit the filter and a few other roadblocks.

So, we’ve been very busy this summer and will continue to be through the start of school. If you do happen to see LISD staff in the halls, give them a wave and say, “Hi” or “Thanks!” If you need us to work on something, please let us know by doing a tech request. Our biggest priority right now is the network switch.

Comments? Questions? Please add them here and we’ll answer them.

  1. Where is textbook software located? I’m looking specfically for our Everyday Math software and Treasures software that used to be available.
